Reconstruction of Route 117 in the Town of Mt Pleasant

The reconstruction of Route 117 from Old Sleepy Hollow Drive to Lake Drive including all entrances to Pace University, Pleasantville campus and the widening and reconstruction of the Route 117 bridges over the southbound Taconic Parkway, which consisted of three lanes, northbound Route 9, which consisted of two lanes and southbound Route 9, also consisting of two lanes. Work included stone masonry removal and replacement, concrete arch construction, drainage, water, gas and electric utility construction, asphalt placement, curb and sidewalk, highway signs, guard railing and landscaping.

During work, a construction and traffic maintenance problem developed which ECCO III solved through engineering and its construction expertise. Instead of detouring truck traffic off Route 9 northbound in order to facilitate the extension of the tunnel arch as per plan. ECCO III demonstrated to the New York State Department of Transportation the inherent safety problem to both workers and motorists should an errant truck pass under the structure while work was in progress. By redesigning the traffic scheme and redesigning the forming system, ECCO III was able to permit trucks to remain on Route 9 while insuring both safety and constructability of this arch extension. This project was a partnered job which was completed to the satisfaction of the New York State Department of Transportation, local residents and Pace University.
