This project was comprised of the rehabilitation of the Memorial Highway Bridge and the Division Street Bridge over I-95 and Metro North Railroad (4 tracks catenary lines). The scope of work for this project included the complete removal and replacement of three (3) bridges; demolition, concrete abutments and piers, structural steel and deck and the relocation of utility services from the existing bridges to the new bridges. Also included were deck rehabilitation of a fourth bridge entrance ramp to I-95 and the installation of drainage systems on the surrounding bridges. 

 

Prior to reconstruction of the bridges, ECCO III was required to re-route the existing electrical conduits and water main, and cut and cap two existing gas mains (low and high pressure). The gas system required the removal of existing underground asbestos-containing pipe and suspended asbestos-containing pipe. Installation of both plastic gas main pipe off structure and steel gas main on structure, and the installation of both a high and a low-pressure line. The high-pressure line was 324mm OD and the low-pressure line was 219mm OD. The electrical system required the removal and disposal of the existing system including concrete encased asbestos-containing pipe and the installation of four new electrical conduits. 

 

The water system required the removal and disposal of existing 406mm water main on and off structure and installation of a new 406mm water main on and off structure including the installation of steel, ductile iron and stainless steel pipe. Verizon required the removal and disposal of existing twenty-four conduits on and off structure and the installation of thirty new conduits on and off structure and the installation of two new manholes and abandoning of one. ECCO was required to temporarily support both Con Edison and Verizon conduits during excavation.
