This project was constructed along an active railroad to improve access and add parking capacity by developing the Cortlandt Metro-North Station into an intermodal passenger facility. The development included construction of a new station building with a 40-foot extension to an existing pedestrian overpass, and rehabilitation work. The new station building contains a waiting area, concession stand, storage rooms and a new elevator. The project also included the construction of a new parking lot for over 700 vehicles. The parking lot construction involved the driving of steel H-piles, concrete retaining walls, placement of approximately 37,000 cubic yards of fill, the construction of a pre-stressed concrete beam bridge, storm water, sewage, water and electrical utilities, sub-base and asphalt placement, fencing, timber railing, signage, and the realignment and widening of a heavily trafficked intersection requiring new turning lanes, traffic signals, lighting and pavement.
