Harmon Shop Replacement Phase V - Stage I

ECCO III Enterprises, Inc. was part of the joint venture team awarded this large-scale Design-Build project in December 2014. As Prime Contractor, ECCO III has completed several other projects at the Harmon site, including, but not limited to the Maintenance Facility and Employee Overpass, Facilities and Yard Improvements and the Phase IV Shop Replacement projects.

Valued at over $245 million, the Harmon Shop Replacement Phase V – Stage I Project replaced a portion of the current Harmon Main Shop (Building 6) with a new state of the art Consist Shop Facility. The work included a retrofit of Building 6, asbestos and lead abatement, demolition of the Blowshed Building, and the existing Recycling Center Facility and finally, bifurcation and partial demolition of Building 6. The Design-Build team designed and constructed the Consist Shop Facility with provision for connection to the future Stage 2 contract for the Running Repair and Support Shop Facility, and presented an optimized alternative to Metro-North’s original foundation concept, which provided a safe, efficient and economical solution for the new structure. This project also entailed the design and construction the new EMU Annex Building.

Additional work included a medium voltage distribution 13.2KV loop, AC and DC substation and association electrical ductbanks, realignment and reconstruction of site trackwork, as well as extensive utilities including drainage, sanitary, fire water, domestic water and gas main along with site work.
