Sandy Restoration - Three Substations on the Hudson Line and a New Substation Harlem Line -Brewster Station

The scope of work for this contract generally consists of the installation of three new Hudson Line substations at Riverdale, Tarrytown, Croton-Harmon and one new Harlem Line substation at Brewster.

Each new substation will be constructed to a height of ABFE + 4’ to avoid flooding. The work generally consists of excavating to construct a foundation and cable vault. A prefabricated substation, rectifier transformers and auxiliary transformers will be installed on top of the cable vault. Underground ducts will be installed from the substation to the tracks and local utility companies for AC feeders, DC traction power and negative returns. At all locations some equipment from the existing substations will be salvaged and returned to Metro North.

ECCO III is a subcontractor to Verde Electric Corp on this contract, responsible for the civil aspects of the contract. This includes excavation and construction of the concrete substructure for each of the substations. ECCO III is also responsible for all new ductbank excavation from the new substation to the existing tracks which feed communication/signals/ information for the rail.
