This $33.3 Million project for NYCDEP consisted of the replacement of the NYS Route 28A Bridge over Esopus Creek, replacement of the NYS Route 28A Railroad Bridge, and reconstruction of NYS Route 28A in the Town of Shandaken, in Ulster County, New York. The site was located in a heavily wooded area with an active waterway and heavy vehicular traffic.
The new road was constructed to the south of the existing roadway, keeping the existing road open to live traffic while construction of the new bridge took place. Following the completion of the new road and bridge, traffic was shifted to the new road, allowing for demolition of the old bridge.
This project required third-party coordination with Verizon and Central Hudson Gas and Electric.
