This $64.3 Million project consisted of the replacement of the Bronx River Parkway Bridge over Metro-North Railroad with a new steel plate multi-girder superstructure supported on new integral abutments installed behind the existing abutments. The work also included the construction of new retaining walls, shoulders, and roadway improvements, including the replacement of the roadway lighting, drainage, sign structures, and installation of traffic cameras and future-use ITS conduits. This project also included the structural repairs and pavement widening of the Bronx River Parkway Bridge over the Bronx River.
Due to the proximity to an operating railroad, this project required extensive coordination with Metro-North in managing track outages and railroad flagman services. Additionally, this project required coordination with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation in managing tree removals, parks improvement work, and arch bridge repairs, and coordination with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection due to the proximity to sewer lines.
